sharing a tart from Diane Borsato

Sharing a Tart from Diane Borsato with Galerina, 2015
Discreet performance and photographs, Guelph, Ontario

In this discreet performance I savored each bite of tart with the sequential nature dwellers I encountered, sharing the moments with reciprocity. The tart became a catalyst for an equalizing exchange between the participating kingdoms: Animalia, Plante and Fungi. Aside from the tart having been gifted to me by Toronto-based artist, Diane Borsato, the action engaged various elements from Borsato’s oeuvre, such as the relational mushroom forays in Terrestrial/Celestial, 2009-2010 and The Chinatown Foray, 2010; her intimacy with the inanimate (Sleeping with Cake, 1999, How to Eat Light, 2003 and Artifacts in my Mouth, 2003); and her homage to performance art history in Three Performances (After Joseph Beuys, Marina Abramovic, and Bonnie Sherk), 2008 and How a Dead Hare Explains Pictures, 2004.

In January 2017, the photo series was published in Fēlan, a poetry and visual art zine based in Jacksonville, Florida.
